In Junior Church today we looked at the theme of FORGIVENESS.
We started with some fun and games, and played Statues.. where one person faces the wall and people walk towards them, when they turn around every stops and if you move you are back to the start! Great fun.
Then it was onto the carpet for a look at this week’s theme.
Richard explained that everyone makes mistakes, and it’s important that we forgive them. We looked at Matthew 18:22, a famous verse on forgiveness.
In the bible, Jesus is asked if someone should be forgiven if they do something seven times.
22 Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.
That is 539 times, which we all agreed was a lot!
Then we thought about mistakes we may have made in the last week and took turns sharing. Andy had managed to spill soup down herself when heading into a meeting; Anthony had sent a bit of a nasty email when he should have picked up the phone first; Edward had knocked a full glass of juice over when having a strop; and there was a great example of leaving your homework to the last minute which we all decided was a bit of a mistake!!
Next we had some pencils and crayons. They were many different colours, shapes and sizes – just like us in the world. We made marks with them, and then rubbed the marks out with an eraser. We thought that Jesus might be like the eraser, rubbing out our mistakes and making it right again.
Then we made a display using the letters F O R G I V E N E S S. We also showed how big 539 was using a line with a curl on for each number!
Lastly, we did a drama piece where Alex made a mistake and spilt water over the carpet in Edward’s room. He said sorry and was forgiven by Edward . We went back into Church for a blessing and a hymn, and then showcased our drama production. Everyone liked it, even our Churchwarden after she realised it wasn’t real water!!
Afterwards, it was time for chocolate biscuits and orange squash.
Join us again next month!
